Hand carved Bath stone
from the Combe Down Mine
This was a commission for the community of Combe Down Village to celebrate the finish of the infill of the mines in the area. I sourced some of the stone that had been mined from below the village for this piece.
This bench was built on part the remains of the wall for the old air shaft for the mine below.
Commissions always welcome

The Site where the bench is to be built
Firstly I made a clay maquette to show the client. I decided to keep the rough texture of the rubble stone
Next I draw out the design in pencil. This is a piece of Combe Down Stone . Very fitting for the Bench
Th completed carving.
All washed and ready to be installed. Now it is washed, you can see the lie of calcite running right through the design.
Now installed into the seat and waiting for the coping stones to to it off
Coping stones arrived and the seat is now open to the public
